Leader and Chancellor of Germany

Adolf Hitler was the Fuhrer (total leader) of the Third Reich. He had overall power in Germany from 1933 to 1945.

Early Life

Hitler's early life wasn't very pleasant: his father, Alois, was a heavy drinker and ruled the family with an iron fist. He adored his mother, Klara, and confided in her. He was a poor student during his school years, this often resulted in harsh lashing from his father. Several years later, he left to Vienna where he hoped to get into the fine arts academy. They declined every request he made. Then, in early 1914, he enlisted in the German army and made it to the rank of corporal by the time he was discharged in 1918. During the war he became blinded by mustard gas and as he laid in the hospital bed he vowed to himself that if he ever regained his sight he would enter into politics.

Hitler did regain his sight, and joined the German Workers' Party (DAP), where he was mentored by Dietrich Eckart. In order to seem more appealing, the party changed its name to the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Workers' Party) and Adolf Hitler designed their banner, the Swastika.

Later life

Afterwords he really got into politics. he was invited to the German Workers Party (Later known as the Nazi Party or NSDAP), where he made speeches. After an unsuccessful Putsch, he was imprisoned where he met soon-to-be long time colleague, Rudolf Hess. In prison, he also wrote his first book: Mein Kampf (My Struggle). The book was a hit; the Nazi's didn't stay banned for long. Also to join the party was: Joseph Goebbles , Hermann Göring, Baldur von Schirach, and Albert Speer to name a few. Then, in 1933, Paul Hindenburg appointed Hitler as the "Chancellor of Germany". Six years after the Nazi's came to power, Hitler ordered the attack on Poland and began the Holocaust, thus beginning WWII. Hitler ordered his troops to keep fighting until the end, then in 1945, he committed suicide. He shot himself and his dog, Blondi, while his Mistress, Eva Braun, took a cyanide pill.
